Last night, The Clink Restaurant at HMP High Down was awarded third place in the ACE Sustains Corporate Award at the annual ACE Summer Event at The Crystal – Siemens’ landmark global urban sustainability centre in London. Meet Jason Lawrence, general manager at The Clink Cymru

Jason joined The Clink Cymru in 2012 as general manager of the training restaurant at HMP Cardiff which opened to the public in September 2012.
Having previously worked in Germany running the flagship restaurant for the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (NAAFI), where he managed a 27-strong team. Graduates reunite at The Clink Restaurant at HMP High Down

42 guests, including Clink graduates, employers, probation officers, family and friends attended The Clink graduate reunion event at The Clink Restaurant at HMP High Down. It was fantastic to hear from the graduates, some of whom were released over three years ago, about how The Clink Charity had made such a difference to their lives and how the mentoring had really supported them and helped them to reintegrate back into society.

Mentoring scheme to aid graduate rehabilitation

Following a minimum of six months training and upon their release, graduates receive additional support in the final three months of their sentence where they are given customised training to help them set up a bank account, find accommodation and ultimately secure full-time employment within the hospitality industry.
The Clink operates a Five Step Programme – Selection, Training, Auditing, Employment and Mentoring.

Training and Graduate Update

Both Clink training restaurants are fully staffed at the moment with 28 prisoners in training at each site. The Clink Restaurant at HMP High Down has released eight graduates into full-time employment over the last six weeks and more are due to be released over the next month. The graduates are working in 4 and 5 star hotels, high street restaurants and contract caterers all in and around the London area.

We’re recruiting for a part-time admin assistant…

Working hours: 24 hours per week – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9am to 5pm
Rate of pay: £7.50 per hour / £9,360 pa
Main duties include:

Producing invoices
Managing deposits / vouchers
Logging and chasing payments
Data inputting
Inputting all payments
Inputting Gift Aid
Managing the weekly banking including going to the bank
Preparing and managing monthly stock taking sheets
Assisting with bookings and e-mail management
Carrying out communications such as thank you letters
Supporting the finance director and management team
