The Clink Restaurant at HMP High Down celebrates five years

The Clink Restaurant at HMP High Down has reached a significant milestone since the prisoner training scheme was launched in 2009. This month marks the fifth year of operation for the restaurant and highlights the incredible success achieved so far in reducing reoffending rates. Kevin McGrath, vice chair of The Clink Charity and chairman of M&M Asset Management, has been appointed The High Sheriff of Greater London for 2014/2015. The Clink Restaurant at HMP High Down turns five

May 2014 marks five years since The Clink Restaurant at HMP High Down opened as the first commercial restaurant to be built inside a working British prison.
The success of that first restaurant and the reception it received from the industry and the general public has led to the steady growth of The Clink’s unique prisoner training programme that will see 10 projects in operation by the end of 2017.

Project number five to open in early 2015

With the announcement of The Clink Gardens at HMP Send also came the news that a fourth Clink restaurant is planned. The Clink Restaurant will open at women’s prison HMP Styal, Cheshire in 2015 subject to planning permission.

Project number four is coming to life

Our next training initiative to launch has been confirmed – The Clink Gardens at HMP Send, Surrey. Entering into a women’s prison for the first time, the project will provide prisoners with the opportunity to gain experience and nationally recognised NVQ qualifications in horticulture.
The project is a large scale outdoor training facility that will provide the women in training the opportunity to grow, cultivate and harvest crops as well as rear chickens for their eggs. This training will support the […]
