High Down - What to expect

A unique dining experience
  • A unique dining experience, within the walls of this category B prison.
  • A delicious meal, cooked using fresh, seasonal ingredients, and the latest cookery techniques, in our open-plan kitchen, which allows diners the opportunity to watch food being prepared by prisoners.
  • You will be served by prisoners who participate in The Clink Restaurants' training scheme.
  • The Clink Restaurant at HMP High Down has a private dining room which is available for exclusive hire. Seating 20 and offering projector and AV facilities it is ideal for meetings, conferences and presentations.
  • Please note that no alcohol is served in the restaurant due to it being banned on prison premises.

Her Majesty's Prison High Down
High Down Lane

Opening Hours:

Breakfast: 8.15am – 10am.

Breakfast is served on the first Wednesday of each month. Please note that you will need to arrive at the security check-in by 7.45am so we can ensure all guests are checked in before entering the prison.

Monday to Friday

Lunch: 12pm – 3pm

Afternoon Tea: 2pm – 4pm

Afternoon tea is served on the first Thursday of each month.

All visits to the restaurant must be booked in advance.

Please note that both the restaurant and the reservations team will be closed for Christmas from Friday 21st December – Wednesday 2nd January.


Public Transport

Train: Take a train to Sutton or Belmont station - these run from London regularly. The prison is less than 15 minutes from each station by taxi (fare is approx. £6 each way).

Bus: Take the number 80 bus from Sutton station directly to the prison.

By Car

Leave the M25 at Junction 8 and take the A217 to Sutton /London. After 5 miles turn right onto the A2022 then turn left at the second roundabout into Sutton Lane, the B2218. The prison is signposted on the right.
