An evening of fine food and entertainment on Friday 11th January, saw The Clink Charity Ball raise £35,000 for their prisoner rehabilitation initiative. The evening involved catering college students from Westminster Kingsway, Clink graduates and Centrepoint students all cooking and serving a delicious meal to the 350 guests.
Held in association with venue partner Royal Lancaster London on Hyde Park, the exquisite four-course menu was developed by Executive Head Chef Daniel McGarey and his team. The evening started with a champagne reception with canapés created by Clink Events and served by Centrepoint students. The evening was hosted by Clink chef ambassador Matt Tebbutt alongside Clink graduates including Kevin Brown, who spoke of the support he has received from The Clink since leaving prison and Rosca Onya, who performed a rap.
Following the meal, Julian White led the auction with lots including one week’s accommodation at The Villas at Podernuovo in Tuscany, two tickets to the Grange Park opera house, a round of golf for four people, one day’s fishing for two rods on the River Test and two seats in the live audience of BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen with Matt Tebbutt.

The Clink Ball was kindly supported by a number of generous sponsors. All the ingredients for the dinner were generously sponsored by Bidfood, the wine and champagne by Booker, the table linen by Johnsons Stalbridge Linen Services and the headline sponsor for the evening was HIT Training.
Chris Moore, chief executive of The Clink Charity, said: “It was wonderful to see so many generous supporters attending our ball. Without the kindness and the generosity of our guests the charity would not be able to offer so many prisoners this unique chance to transform their lives. We are incredibly grateful to all the chefs, students and hotel staff for creating a wonderful evening for everyone to enjoy.”
Vic Laws MBE, chairman of The Clink Charity Ball Committee and Group Restaurant Ambassador, said: “Delighted that, in these uncertain times, our friends are still able to support us and raise so much to help us continue The Clink’s great work. I would particularly like to thank our headline sponsors Bidfood, Booker, HIT Training, Johnsons Stalbridge Linen Services and of course The Royal Lancaster London without whose help the Ball would not take place.”
